It was the third straight game in which the Bengals covered the number, as they covered as a 3.5-point underdog against the Giants, as a 3-point favorite versus the Chiefs, and as a 9.5-point fave against Oakland. The Bengals are now one win behind the Colts for the first of two wild card spots in the AFC.
SAN DIEGO: The Chargers lost their third straight game last Sunday in a 16-13 heartbreaker in overtime to the Ravens. In the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, San Diego’s defense allowed a 29-yard Ray Rice reception on a 4th-and-29 play to set up a game-tying field goal. Philip Rivers completed 23-of-36 passes for 228 yards and one touchdown, while Ryan Mathews rushed 72 yards on 19 carries and Danario Alexander caught five passes for 74 yards. Malcolm Floyd also caught four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. The loss dropped the Chargers to 4-7 on the year and 5-6 against the spread, as they failed to cover as a 1-point home underdog. Outside of winning five straight and having a ton of help, the Bolts’ playoff hopes are all but finished.
