CAROLINA: The Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 30-22 victory over the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Cam Newton was fantastic as he completed 18-of-28 passes for 306 yards with two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores. Brandon LaFell also added three catches for 74 yards and a touchdown, while Steve Smith caught four passes for 60 yards. The victory was Carolina’s first since a 21-13 win over Washington on October 4 and it was also the first time the Panthers covered the spread since that same game versus the Redskins. Carolina is now 3-8 overall and 5-6 against the spread this season.
KANSAS CITY: Following their 17-9 loss to the Broncos in Week 12, the Chiefs have now lost eight straight games. In fact, they haven’t won since beating the Saints 27-24 on September 23. The good news is they have covered in two of their last three games, which includes a 16-13 loss to the Steelers as a 12.5-point underdog, as well as a 10-point underdog versus Denver last week. In that loss to the Broncos, Brady Quinn completed 13-of-25 passes for just 126 yards with one interception, while Jamaal Charles rushed 23 times for 107 yards and Dwayne Bowe caught four passes for 41 yards. Kansas City is now 1-10 overall and 4-7 against the spread in 2012.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Panthers are 3-point favorites versus the Chiefs, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 40.5 points. Carolina is 3-8 overall and 2-3 on the road, while Kansas City is 1-10 overall and 0-6 at home.
TRENDS: The Chiefs are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games and 0-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record. The Panthers are 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in Week 13, while the Panthers are 1-5 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win.
