Falcons vs. Saints Odds
NEW ORLEANS, LA (The Spread) – Two rivals in the NFC South meet up on Sunday as the New Orleans Saints host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at 1PM ET on FOX.
Atlanta is coming off a 13-3 season in which it went 9-6-1 against the spread and went under the point total in 11 of 16 games. New Orleans went 7-9 during the season and 8-8 against the spread. The Saints hit the over in 10 of 16 games last season.
Trends show that the Saints have covered the spread in 4 of their last five against the Falcons, but the underdog has covered in 6 of the last 8 in this series. These two have also went over the point total in their last 5 meetings in New Orleans.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, New Orleans is the slight favorite at home, as the Saints have odds of -3 points against the Falcons. The over/under total for this game has been set at 54 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had New Orleans favored by just 2 points. The spread hit a low of 1.5 points before climbing up to 3. The over/under total also opened at 54 points. It dipped down to 53 before making its way back to its opening total.
Atlanta won the NFC South title last season behind a strong passing attack that is entirely intact this year. Matt Ryan just signed a long contract extension in the offseason and he has receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White to throw to along with tight end Tony Gonzalez. The Falcons addressed their running back situation in the offseason by bringing in former Ram Steven Jackson. The key for Atlanta will be its defense, which only allowed 18.7 points per game last season and was among the league leaders in interceptions.
New Orleans was a bit of mess last season with coach Sean Payton around, but Payton is back this year, as is quarterback Drew Brees. Even without Payton, the Saints had the top passing attack in the league last season. However, the issue with New Orleans was its defense, which ranked last in the NFL, allowing 440.1 yards per game. The Saints attempted to help that by drafting a pair of defenders early in the NFL Draft, but the team lost defensive end Will Smith prior to the season for the entire season due to a knee injury.
In terms of Injuries, Atlanta tackle Mike Johnson is out for this game with a leg injury while New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma is out with a knee injury.
The Public Bets for this game are currently backing Atlanta. The Falcons are getting 55% of the wagers with odds of +3 points at New Orleans on Sunday.
