Chiefs vs. Jaguars Odds
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – Two struggling teams from last season can start the season on a good note as the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Kansas City Chiefs at 1PM ET on CBS.
Both teams went 2-14 last season. The Chiefs were 5-11 against the spread and hit the under in 8 of their 16 games. The Jaguars went 7-9 against the spread while going under the point total in 9 of 16 games.
Trends show that the Jaguars have covered the spread in 12 of their last 14 season openers. Kansas City is 1-5 against the spread in its last 6 road games and the Chiefs have failed to cover in their last four conference games.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Kansas City is the slight favorite on the road, as the Chiefs have odds of -3.5 points against the Jaguars. The over/under total for this game has been set at 41 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had Kansas City favored by just 1.5 points. The spread has been on the climb since then. The over/under total opened at 39 points and has also been climbing since.
Kansas City didn’t have much of an offense last year, mostly due to a poor passing game that ranked 32nd in the NFL. This year’s team should be a in a better situation with Alex Smith under center. Smith still has a great running back to work with in Jamaal Charles, who rushed for 1,509 yards and five touchdowns in 2012. The Chiefs defense struggled to stop the run a year ago, but is shaping up to be improved this season behind Andy Reid as head coach.
Jacksonville didn’t have much go right for it last season. The offense was bad and the defense wasn’t any better. This year’s team should be improve because of Maurice Jones-Drew being healthy. He will give a boost to the offense and quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who struggled all last season. Gabbert does have a solid receiver to throw to in Cecil Shorts, who caught 55 passes for 979 yards and seven touchdowns.
In terms of Injuries, Kansas City is coming into the game healthy while Jacksonville first round pick Luke Joeckel is questionable with a hip injury.
The Public Bets for this game are currently backing Kansas City, as the Chiefs are getting 80% of the wagers with odds of -3.5 points at Jacksonville.
