Titans vs. Steelers Odds
PITTSBURGH, PA (The Spread) – The Pittsburgh Steelers look to start another run toward the playoffs on Sunday as they host the Tennessee Titans at 1PM ET on CBS.
Pittsburgh is coming off an 8-8 season last year in which the Steelers went 6-9-1 against the spread and hit the under in 9 of 16 games. Tennessee went 6-10 last season and was also 6-10 against the spread. The Titans hit the over in 9 of 17 games.
Trends show that these two have hit the over in 7 of their last 10 meetings and Pittsburgh has hit the over in 9 of its last 11 season openers. The underdog has covered the spread in 4 of the last 5 meetings between these two.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Pittsburgh is the favorite at home, as the Steelers have a point spread of -7 against the Titans. The over/under total for this game has been set at 42 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had the Steelers favored by 7 points as well. The spread jumped up to 7.5 during the week, but has since settled in at Pittsburgh -7. The over/under total opened at 43.5 points, which was its peak. It has since settled in to 42 points.
The Steelers were once again led by their solid defense a year ago, ranking first in the NFL in passing yards allowed and second in rushing yards allowed. This year’s defense shouldn’t miss a beat, but Pittsburgh does have some real concerns on offense. Gone is speedy receiver Mike Wallace, who opened up the passing game for Pittsburgh. The Steelers also have concerns at running back, where fourth round draft pick Le’Veon Bell is injured, leaving a group of options, none of which will likely produce great results. This season may fall on the arm and beat-up body of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who threw for 3,265 yards and 26 touchdowns last season.
The Titans were hot and cold last season, mostly due to inconsistent play on both sides of the ball. Tennessee ranked 20th or worse in passing offense, rushing offense, passing defense and rushing defense last season. The Titans tried to address the offense in the draft with a pair of early picks, but Tennessee is still unsure of what it has is quarterback Jake Locker, who took over the starting role late and threw for 2,176 yards and 10 scores a year ago. Running back Chris Johnson had a slight improvement from recent seasons, but may need to rush for more than 1,243 yards this year if the Titans hope to make a playoff run.
In terms of Injuries, both teams come into this game healthy, with no major injuries to report.
The Public Bets for this game are currently backing Tennessee, as the Titans are getting 51% of the wagers with a spread of +7 against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
