Vikings vs. 49ers Odds
The opening week of the NFL Season concludes tonight on Monday Night Football when the San Francisco 49ers host the Minnesota Vikings at 10:15PM ET on ESPN.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Vikings are a slight road favorite in this game, as they are getting odds of -2 points against the 49ers. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 41.5 points. Minnesota has won five of its last six against the 49ers and went 4-2 against the spread in those six games. These two have hit the under in four of their last five meetings.
The Vikings were 7-9 last season, finishing third in the NFC North. Minnesota was 10-6 against the spread in 2014 while going 10-6 with the under. Mike Zimmer is entering his second season as the team’s head coach. The team has a lot of reasons for optimism. The biggest is the return of Adrian Peterson in the backfield. Peterson missed 15 games last year with child-abuse accusations, but is back now and should be healthy and rested. Teddy Bridgewarter showed a lot of signs of growth late last year and he finished with 2,919 yards and 14 touchdowns as a rookie, but also had 12 interceptions.
The 49ers were 8-8 last season, finishing third in the NFC West. The 49ers were just 6-9-1 against the spread last year and were 11-5 with the under last year. After four season under Jim Harbaugh, the team and the coach parted ways. He went 44-19-1 in his four seasons with the team. In steps Jim Tomsula, who was an assistant under Harbaugh. The 49ers had a number of big losses on defense last year, including the retirement of Patrick Willis and Chris Borland. Offensively, the team lost Frank Gore in the backfield, but is hoping that second-year back Carlos Hyde can step in. Hyde had 333 yards on 83 carries as a rookie. Colin Kaepernick is back at QB after throwing for 3,369 yards and 19 touchdowns last year, but he also had 10 interceptions.
