According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Houston is the slight favorite at home, as the Texans are getting odds of -1.5 points against the Chiefs. The over/under total for the game has been set at 42 points. The road team has covered the spread in 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two.

The Chiefs were 9-7 last season and fell just shy of making the playoffs. The Chiefs were 10-6 against the spread and KC was 11-5 with the under in 2014. Andy Reid is in his third season with Kansas City. He has gone 20-12 in his first two years. The Chiefs have had a strong defense under Reid, but the offense has been a little inconsistent. While the team has Jamaal Charles in the backfield, he battled injuries for 2014 and is expected to be healthy this year. Quarterback Alex Smith threw for 3,265 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, but didn’t complete a TD pass to a receiver. The team added Jeremy Maclin in the offseason in hopes to change that stat this year.

The Texans were 9-7 last season as well and also missed the playoffs. Houston was 9-6-1 against the spread and Houston was 8-8 with the total. Bill O’Brien is coming into his second season as the head coach. The team has some optimism for this year thanks to the play of J.J. Watt in 2014. Watt had 20.5 sacks with 10 pass deflections and five fumble recoveries last season. On offense, Houston is without Arian Foster for the start of the season with an injury and the team is handing the ball to new quarterback Brian Hoyer, who spent last season in Cleveland. He threw for 3,326 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games.
