49ers vs. Jets Week 2 Prediction
The defending NFC champion 49ers got off to a rocky start in 2020, losing at home last week to the Cardinals as a favorite. Will they have more success on the road when they visit the Jets at 1:00 p.m. ET?

NFL Week 2
San Francisco 49ers DFS Spin
Jimmy Garoppolo completed 19-of-33 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns in San Francisco’s 24-20 Week 1 loss to the Cardinals. Don’t let the box score fool you. Garoppolo (and the Niners’ offense as a whole) was completely out of rhythm on Sunday, overthrowing wide-open receivers in the back of the end zone, flailing 50-50 ducks down the sideline and, perhaps even more frustrating, checking down before a receiver could run himself open over the top. Garoppolo did hit Raheem Mostert in stride for a 76-yard touchdown strike and, later on, Jerick McKinnon (6/44/1) for the latter’s first touchdown since 2017, but it was an underwhelming afternoon that saw the Niners start the year 0-1 rather than an obtainable 1-0 due solely to the quarterback’s poor performance through the final three quarters. Perhaps Brandon Aiyuk’s (hamstring) return will right the ship since San Francisco was forced to lean on Dante Pettis and Kendrick Bourne in Week 1. Garoppolo will be a matchup-based QB2 in Week 2 against the Jets
New York Jets DFS Spin
Sam Darnold completed 21-of-35 passes for 215 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Jets’ 27-17, Week 1 loss to the Bills. The stat line isn’t good, but it masks how awful Darnold truly was. Playing with one of the league’s worst supporting casts behind a revamped line that had little time to gel, Darnold made one bad decision after another, none worse than his interception. Rolling left on a third down, Darnold threw across his body into a crowd, and it was justifiably picked off. Darnold has zero help in any phase of the game — the Jets’ rushing attack was nonexistent as usual — but he did not appear capable of rising above his circumstances. The Bills are one of the best defenses in the league, of course, but things will not get any easier against the 49ers in Week 2. This is already an offense in crisis. Darnold doesn’t have a truly plus matchup until Week 5 against the Cardinals.
49ers vs. Jets Betting Prediction
The under is a perfect 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two teams and is 7-3-1 in the 49ers’ last 11 games when favored on the road. The under is also 3-1-1 in the Niners’ last five games dating back to last season and is 4-1 in the Jets’ last five home games as well as 5-2 in New York’s last seven games overall. Given how out of sync both offenses were last week, the under is the safest play on the board today in East Rutherford.
NFL WEEK 2 BETTING PREDICTION: 49ERS/JETS UNDER 41.5
