AFC Championship: Will Julian Edelman pile up the catches vs. the Broncos?

Edelman AFC Championship Odds

Julian Edelman gave the New England Patriots a clear boost in his return to the field last week. Will he do the same in Sunday’s AFC Championship against the Denver Broncos?

View NFL Odds

According to oddsmakers at RealBets, the Patriots are favored on the road in this game, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Broncos. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 45 points. These two meet today at 3:05PM ET on CBS.

The Patriots (13-4, 8-7-2 ATS) were without Edelman since Nov. 15 when he was injured vs. the Giants. In that time, the Patriots lost four games and the offense was never quite in sync. His return last week sparked the Patriots to a 27-20 win over the Chiefs. Edelman caught 10 passes for 100 yards in the win and his play should be a big asset for today’s meeting with the Broncos (13-4, 8-8-1 ATS), who have the league’s top pass defense.

Oddsmakers have given Edelman an over/under of 7 receptions and 83.5 receiving yards for today’s contest. When these two met during the regular season, with Denver getting a 30-24 OT win, Edelman wasn’t playing. He appeared in nine games this season, catching 61 passes for 692 yards with seven touchdowns. He had at least 84 yards in five of those games while catching 7 passes or more in four of them. Edelman was targeted 16 times in last week’s playoff win, but that may have been more about the matchup than any indication of what the Patriots will do today.
