CLEVELAND: The Browns had a modest three-game winning streak two weeks ago but when faced against playoff contenders, they’ve proven to be no match in their last two contests. The Broncos routed the Browns 34-12 in Week 16, as Brandon Weeden completed 12-of-19 passes for 104 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions before being knocked out of the game with an injury. Colt McCoy replaced him and completed just 9-of-17 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Trent Richardson was also held to 53 yards on only nine carries while Greg Little was Cleveland’s leading receiver with six catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. The loss dropped the Browns to 5-10 overall and 8-6-1 against the spread as they’ve now failed to cover the number in back-to-back games.
PITTSBURGH: The Steelers were officially knocked out of the playoffs last week when they fell 13-10 to the Bengals in Pittsburgh. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 14-of-28 passes for 220 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. His last interception was the nail in the coffin for the Steelers, as it set up the game-winning field goal for Cincinnati. Rashard Mendenhall was also held to 50 yards on 11 carries while Jonathan Dwyer was held to 39 rushing yards on 14 carries. Antonio Brown led Pittsburgh in receiving with five catches for 97 yards with one touchdown, while tight end Heath Miller caught three passes for 45 yards. The loss dropped the Steelers to 7-8 overall as they’ve now lost three-straight games. They also failed to cover the spread for the third straight time and for the fourth time in their last five games.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv the spread for this game has yet to be released. Weeden’s injury has likely caused oddsmakers to hold off on releasing both a spread and an over/under total until it’s clear who will be the starter for Cleveland.
TRENDS: The over is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams in Pittsburgh and the underdog is 5-2 against the spread in the last seven meetings between these two teams overall. The Browns are also 5-2 against the number in their last seven games versus the Steelers.
