Cardinals 2012 NFL Season Odds
GLENDALE, AZ (The Spread) – The Arizona Cardinals should be an improved team in 2012 but their quarterback situation remains the biggest concern.
Oddsmakers have installed the Cardinals as 60/1 long shots to win the 2013 Super Bowl and 28/1 to win the NFC Championship. They’re also +750 on the money line to win the NFC West Division and have an over/under of 7 for number of wins in the regular season.
The Cardinals were very quiet in free agency, signing cornerback William Gay after losing Richard Marshall to the Dolphins. Instead of investing money in free agency, Arizona focused on the draft.
The Cardinals used their first-round pick on Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd and their third-round selection on Oklahoma cornerback Jamell Fleming. In the fourth round Arizona drafted Mississippi offensive tackle Bobby Massie and in the fifth, the Cards took Washington guard Senio Kelemete.
The biggest question mark surrounding the Cardinals is: Who will start at quarterback? Kevin Kolb was the big money addition last offseason but he can’t stay healthy and John Skelton outperformed him in last Sunday’s Hall of Fame game. The Cardinals may want Kolb to start but he’s done very little to earn the job and the team did win several games last year with Skelton under center.
That said, the defense should be improved under second-year defensive coordinator Ray Horton. On a whole, the Cardinals players struggled to grasp Horton’s defensive scheme last year, which is the same system that the Steelers use in Pittsburgh. But Arizona’s defense did improve throughout the season and in Year 2 under Horton, the Cards could be an underrated unit.
