The big news for the Cardinals this week was that coach Bruce Arians was taken to the hospital ahead of Tuesday’s practice. He complained of stomach pain and was evaluated in San Diego with the Cardinals in two for joint practices with the Chargers. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Arians was in good health following the scare and was released on Wednesday.
While Arizona lost 31-10 at home to Oakland in its preseason opener, San Diego fell 27-10 at Tennessee last Saturday. Kellen Clemens was the team’s leading passer, completing 8 of 15 passes for 96 yards while starter Philip Rivers completed two-of-three passes for 64 yards and a touchdown in limited work.
OUR PICK: With the two teams combining for only 20 points a week ago, the total for this matchup tonight seems a bit high. These are two teams with veteran coaching staffs that use preseason more for evaluating the bottom of the roster as opposed to the top. Thus, look for the starters to only get a quarter or a quarter-and-a-half before giving way to the backups. Tonight should be a low-scoring affair.
