Chicago Bears DFS Spin
The biggest story of this game is the injury status of Bears quarterback Justin Fields. Fields is dealing with a dislocated left shoulder and partially torn ligaments in that shoulder. He’s officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with Bears’ head coach Matt Eberfluss stating Friday about the injury, “We’ve got 48 hours to assess that.” If Justin Fields is unable to play, the Bears’ backup quarterback is Trevor Siemian whose career touchdown pass-to-interception ratio is 41-27.
Bears’ #1 running back Khalil Herbert was placed on injured reserve a week and a half ago which means that David Montgomery will get most of the backfield touches for Chicago in this contest. Montgomery recorded 67 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, and 54 receiving yards in the Bears’ 27-24 loss to the Falcons last weekend, and he should see around 15-20 touches against the Jets on Sunday regardless of who suits up at quarterback.
New York Jets DFS Spin
The Jets have a quarterback situation of their own. New York quarterback Zach Wilson played terribly last weekend in the Jets’ loss to the Patriots, completing only 9 of 22 passes for 77 yards. He took 4 sacks and posted a QBR of 21.8 out of 100. After the loss, Wilson failed to take accountability for his poor play. This likely led to Jets head coach Robert Saleh naming Mike White the starting QB for Sunday’s game against the Bears.
Mike White showed flashes of brilliance last season, throwing for 405 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions on Halloween against Cincinnati last year. He may give Jets pass-catchers like Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis, and Tyler Conklin slight bumps in value because White will likely be better than Zach Wilson.
If you need a defense for DFS, consider the New York Jets. New York may be facing Trevor Siemian on Sunday, but even if Justin Fields plays, the Jets’ defense will have value as they’re ranked in the top ten in the NFL in opponent yards per play, opponent points per play, opponent yards per pass attempt, and takeaways per game.
Bears vs. Jets Betting Trends
Chicago is 3-13 ATS in their last 16 road games against teams with a winning home record.
Chicago is 7-15-1 ATS in their last 23 games overall.
New York is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss.
New York is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following an outright loss.
Bears vs. Jets Prediction:
The Jets have been a solid team this year on defense as referenced in some of the statistics listed above. The problem was the quarterback position. Zach Wilson had been holding back the Jets the past four weeks as they lost two games against the Patriots, then won two games in spite of him. With Mike White at the helm, the Jets have a chance to get the new quarterback bump. That combined with the fact that Justin Fields might sit out and probably won’t be 100% if he does play, leads me to believe that the Jets can win this game handily. I’ll lay the points with New York’s AFC team.
