Justin Fields completed 14-of-27 passes for 190 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Bears’ 12-7, Week 6 loss to the Commanders, adding 12 carries for 88 additional yards. Fields’ 88 yards rushing were the second most of his career. It was another start where Fields made a few splash plays but missed far too many layups. Slow to react and go through his reads, Fields was lucky to even make it through the game. He took a number of savage hits to his mid-section, struggling to peel himself off the turf at least 4-5 times. He had just 121 scoreless yards of total offense at halftime but was a little better after the break. That’s where he found Dante Pettis for a highlight-reel 40-yard score down the left sideline and uncorked a 39-yard run that positioned the Bears at the Commanders’ five-yard line for the potential game-winning score with 0:52 remaining. Instead, the Bears turned the ball over on downs with goal-to-go for the second time in the proceedings, this time after Darnell Mooney was literally centimeters from securing the go-ahead score at the goal line. Agonizing, but it is difficult to say Fields and the Bears deserved the victory. Finally being unleashed a bit by necessity over the past two weeks, Fields in theory offers dual-threat upside for Week 7, but Bill Belichick is about the worst possible Xs and Os matchup for the struggling young signal caller.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Mac Jones (ankle) “took the bulk of the first-team reps on Saturday.” He then noted, “That’s a sign that he’s on track to return vs. the Bears.” Jones closed the week with consecutive full practices. If he played for any team other than the Patriots, he may not even have a questionable tag next to his name. He should be good to go versus Chicago, though the Pats will likely be able to ease Jones in behind a strong running game. Jones is only a fantasy option in Superflex leagues this week.
