Bengals now SB long shots without Dalton
With quarterback Andy Dalton suffering a potential season-ending injury on Sunday, the Bengals’ Super Bowl odds have fallen off a cliff over the past 24 hours.
Entering Week 14, the Bengals had 9/1 odds to win this season’s Super Bowl. But after Dalton suffered a fracture in his right thumb trying to make a tackle during Sunday’s loss to the Steelers, Cincinnati’s Super Bowl odds dropped to 30/1 according to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI.
The injury is on Dalton’s throwing hand and the original timetable for his return was around 4-6 weeks. But ESPN’s Bob Holtzman reported Sunday evening that the injury is “likely season ending” and that the best-case scenario is that Dalton returns sometime in the playoffs.
Dalton has never missed a game since being drafted with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. A.J. McCarron, a fifth-round pick out of Alabama in 2014, now becomes the Bengals’ starter. McCarron completed 22-of-32 passes for 280 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions in Cincinnati’s Week 14 loss to Pittsburgh.
