Bills vs. Jets Pick
Is the under a safe bet when the Bills visit the Jets at 1:00PM ET on New Year’s Day on Sunday?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Jets are 3.5-point home underdogs versus the Bills while the over/under currently sits at 42 points. New York opened as a 5-point underdog but when Buffalo fired head coach Rex Ryan and named EJ Manuel its starting quarterback for Sunday, the line dropped to 3.5. The total also fell from 45 to 42.

The Bills fired Ryan on Tuesday afternoon and promoted offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn to interim coach. The Buffalo News’ Vic Carucci reports that the Bills are settled on keeping Lynn in that role for 2017 because the big outside names don’t want to work for general manager Doug Whaley. Why the Bills decided to keep Whaley if that’s the case is mind-bogglingly, but I digress.
Jets coach Todd Bowles confirmed that Ryan Fitzpatrick will start against the Bills on Sunday after the team placed Bryce Petty on injured reserve, ending his season. New York could start rookie Christian Hackenberg, but clearly the Jets don’t feel as though the No. 51 overall pick is ready to make his professional debut after a disastrous preseason.

OUR PREDICTION: Neither team has anything to play for on Sunday and this should be a sloppy, low-scoring game given the quarterback matchup. Manuel isn’t going to move the ball through the air and Fitzpatrick might not have Brandon Marshall or Matt Forte at his disposal in the Jets offense. The under is 6-1-1 in the Jets’ last eight games coming off a loss and 4-0 in their last four games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game. This should be an ugly, low-scoring game that is highly forgettable.
