Browns bench Manziel, McCown to start
Just over a week after naming him the starting quarterback, the Browns have benched Johnny Manziel in favor of Josh McCown for Monday night’s game against the Ravens.
Earlier Tuesday Browns coach Mike Pettine said a video allegedly showing Manziel partying over the team’s bye week was “disappointing” and then hinted he was considering benching his second-year quarterback. Later that afternoon, Pettine officially made the decision to bench Manziel, demote him to third-string and then go with McCown as the starter.
Despite the quarterback switch, the Browns are still a 2.5-point home favorite over the Ravens according to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag. Cleveland had opened as 1-point favorites but the line was bet up to 2.5 and that’s where it remains. As for the total, it remains unchanged after opening at 41 points.
As for Baltimore, Matt Schaub will start in place of Joe Flacco, who tore his ACL in a win last Sunday versus the Rams.
