Winston favored to win Rookie of the Year
Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston is having a solid first season in the NFL and he’s the currently favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI currently list Winston as a 1/2 favorite over the rest of the field to take on NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors this season. After a rough start to his rookie campaign, Winston has now thrown for 2,877 yards with 17 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. While it remains a long shot at 6-6, Winston has the Buccaneers on the doorstep to possibly securing a playoff berth this season.
Fellow signal-caller Marcus Mariota has the next best odds to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award this year in the NFL. Mariota has 3/4 odds now that he’s completed 63.4-percent of his passes for 2,512 yards with 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Titans aren’t having as much team success under Mariota as the Bucs are having with Winston, but one could argue that Winston also has a better supporting cast.
Rams’ running back Todd Gurley is 13/2 to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Yeard award, while Raiders receiver Amari Cooper has the longest odds to take home the honors at 15/2. Gurley burst onto the NFL scene in Week 4 but his play has dramatically fallen off over the last month due to a poor offensive line in St. Louis. At one point it almost seemed like a given that he would win Offensive Rookie of the Year, but now he’s a long-shot behind the two quarterbacks.
