Bills hold on against Panthers
Buffalo secured a 27-14 win at Carolina last week to improve to 2-0 in the preseason. Matt Barkley helped lead the Bills offense as he finished 8-of-10 through the air for 110 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. Third-string quarterback Tyree Jackson led the ground game with eight rushes for 27 yards, while LeSean McCoy contributed four rushes for six yards and a score. Duke Williams led the receiving corps with three catches for 38 yards and a TD. Stephen Hauschka was 1-for-2 on field goal attempts as he made a 30-yarder, while Chase McLaughlin was 1-for-1 with a 23-yard make. Kevin Johnson paced the defense with a 70-yard interception return.
Lions unable to rally back
Detroit fell into a 10-0 deficit through one quarter and was unable to rally last week as it fell 30-23 at Houston in preseason week two. David Fales led the passing attack as he went 12-of-19 for 226 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Mark Thompson paced the ground game with five rushes for 25 yards and a score. Andy Johnson caught two passes for 60 yards, while Zach Zenner caught a 5-yard TD. Matt Prater was 1-for-1 on field goal attempts with a 49-yard make. Miles Killebrew and Will Harris both had six tackles (five solo) to lead the defense.
NFL Betting Trends
Buffalo
The Bills are 4-1 ATS in their last five games on field turf. The under is 6-1 in the last seven Buffalo road games.
Detroit
The Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Detroit is 1-5 ATS in its last six games on field turf.
Prediction:
Buffalo is a little bit healthier and its starters will probably get a bit more run than Detroit’s especially at the skill positions. While it’s difficult to take the Bills on the road with the hook, I haven’t seen much life out of the Lions yet this preseason and their home fans will be ready to boo at the first sign of things going south. I think Buffalo is the smart play here.
