Newton out, Anderson in vs. Bucs

CHARLOTTE, NC (The Spread) – The Carolina Panthers made it official on Wednesday, Cam Newton will not play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.

Newton suffered a back injury yesterday when he was involved in a car accident on his way to the team facility. He spent the night in the hospital before being released, but the injury is too severe for the team to put him on the field this Sunday, which means Derek Anderson will get the start.

Strangely enough, Anderson already has a start against Tampa Bay this season. He started in the season opener for Newton when Cam was dealing with a rib injury. Anderson went 24 of 34 passing for 230 yards and two touchdowns to lead Carolina to a 20-14 win at Tampa Bay.

Bet on NFL Week 15 Odds

Oddsmakers still like the Panthers to win on Sunday, even without Newton, as oddsmakers from Bovada.lv currently have Carolina favored by 3 points at home against the Bucs. The over/under total is currently listed at 41 points. The opening odds had Carolina favored by 5 and the spread was at a high of 7 prior to Newton’s injury.
