Can the Seahawks slow down the Saints and hit the under in Week 8?

Seahawks vs. Saints Pick

Will it be a great offense or a great defense that stands tall when the New Orleans Saints host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at 1PM ET?

According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Seahawks are a slight road favorite, as Seattle is getting odds of -2.5 points against the Saints. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 48 points. Seattle has won three straight over the Saints and the two have hit the under in six of their last nine meetings, including two straight encounters.

Bet on Seahawks vs. Saints

Seattle is coming off a 6-6 tie with the Cardinals last Sunday night to move to 4-1-1 on the season. The Seahawks are 3-3 with the over/under total this season despite having a defense that is allowing just 14 points per game and an offense that is only putting up 18.5 points per contest. The offense has been struggling as Russell Wilson has been battling a knee and ankle injury since early in the year. Despite the injuries, he has thrown for 1,559 yards and five touchdowns with only one interception, but where it is felt is in the run game, where he has just 33 yards rushing this year. Christine Michael is the leading rusher with 406 yards and four touchdowns, but the team just doesn’t have the same running presence. Defensively, Seattle has been great, allowing just 84.2 rushing yards per game. The unit has 20 sacks while forcing six turnovers. The defense could be without Kam Chancellor, who has missed the last two games with a groin injury.

The Saints are coming off a 27-21 loss to the Chiefs last week. They are now just 2-4 on the season while going 4-2 with the over. The Saints have their typical dynamic of a great offense with a bad defense. The defense is giving up 32.5 points and 414.2 yards per contest. They allow nearly 300 passing yards per game. The Saints have just 9 sacks and 2 interceptions on the year as well. The offense is putting up 29.3 points and 432.5 yards per game, including 350.2 passing yards per contest. Drew Brees has thrown for 2,101 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. Brandin Cooks and Michael Thomas have combined for 923 yards and 68 receptions. The Saints could use more of a run game to balance things out, as they have just 494 yards on the ground in six games.

While the Saints have an offense that typically moves the ball, I don’t think they will have their usual success against a defense like Seattle. The Seahawks have held all but one opponent to 18 points or less this year. The Seahawks should see a little boost in offense against a bad New Orleans defense, but Seattle just doesn’t look good with the ball as Wilson isn’t himself. Don’t look for a shootout in this one.
