Chargers vs. Lions Odds
DETROIT, MI (The Spread) – The Detroit Lions are looking to lock up their first playoff spot since 1999 when they host the San Diego Chargers on Saturday at 4:05PM ET on CBS.
DETROIT: The Lions are 9-5 on the year after a 28-27 win at Oakland last week in which the Lions overcame a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The Lions have won two straight to hold a two-game lead for the sixth and final spot in the NFC playoffs. If Detroit wins on Saturday, they will make their first playoff appearance this decade. Detroit is 4-3 at home and 6-6-2 against the spread while hitting the over in 9 of 14 games. The Lions are fourth in the NFL in scoring at 28.2 points per game. They are posting 380 yards per game as well as the team has a great 1-2 punch of Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Stafford has thrown for 4,145 yards with 33 TD’s and 14 INT’s on the year while Johnson has caught 81 passes for 1,335 yards and a league-high 14 TD’s. On defense, the Lions give up 23.7 points and 354.6 yards per game. Detroit has 18 INT’s and 38 sacks on the year as well as they give up just 218 passing yards per game.
SAN DIEGO: The Chargers are coming off a 34-14 win over Baltimore last week to get to 7-7 on the season. San Diego is one game back of Denver in the AFC West standings and the wild card standings. The Chargers have won three straight, scoring at least 34 points in each of the victories. San Diego is 2-4 on the road this season and 5-9 against the spread. The Chargers have split the over/under in 14 games. The Chargers are fifth in the NFL in scoring at 25.6 points per game. They average 390 yards per game largely due to Philip Rivers, who has thrown for 4,015 yards with 23 TD’s. He does also have 17 INT’s on the season. The Chargers are allowing 22.4 points and 327.6 yards per game this season. San Diego has allowed just 201 passing yards per game, which ranks near the top of the NFL.
ODDS: Oddsmakers have the Lions as a slight favorite in this contest, giving them a point spread of -1 at home against the Chargers. The over/under total for the game is currently set at 52 points.
