Bears 2012-13 Season Odds
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – The Chicago Bears had a productive offseason and look to challenge for the playoff spot that eluded them a year ago.
The Bears currently have 16/1 odds to win the 2013 Super Bowl and 17/2 to win the 2013 NFC Championship. They’re also +350 on the money line to win the NFC North Division and have an over/under of 9 for total number of wins for the 2012 NFL regular season.
The biggest move the Bears made this offseason was trading for former Miami Dolphin wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who will reunite with quarterback Jay Cutler. (The pair played together in Denver before Cutler was traded to Chicago and Marshall was dealt to Miami.) The Bears also signed free agents Jason Campbell and Michael Bush so if Cutler and Matt Forte were to fall victim to injuries again, Chicago does have two capable backups at those key offensive positions.
In the draft the Bears selected Boise State defensive end Shea McClellin with their top pick. In the second round they drafted South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and in the third round they took Oregon State safety Brandon Hardin. In the fourth, they took fullback/H-Back Evan Rodriquez from Temple.
If the offensive line can improve the Bears have the roster to make a deep run in the postseason. They play in a tough division but Cutler, Forte and Marshall form a potent offensive core. Their defense is getting long in the tooth and the injury situation with MLB Brian Urlacher is concerning. But thanks to veterans like Julius Peppers, Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman, Chicago will be competitive throughout. In fact, it’s a little surprising that their regular season over/under total has been set at 9 because this is a team that could easily win 10-plus games.
