Browns get OT win
The Browns got to the .500 mark on the season with a 12-9 OT win over the Baltimore Ravens last week. Cleveland is now 2-2-1 and has played in three overtime games. They are 4-1 against the spread and 3-2 with the over. Cleveland is 3-0 ATS at home this season.
Cleveland is averaging 22.8 points and 404.6 yards per game on offense thus far in 2018. Baker Mayfield has provided some momentum in his rookie year, throwing for 838 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Carlos Hyde leads a steady ground attack with 348 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Cleveland is giving up 22.6 points and 413 yards per game. Their pass defense is allowing nearly 300 yards per game. Myles Garrett is among the tops in the NFL in sacks with five this season while rookie Denzel Ward has three interceptions.
Chargers win a pair at home
The Chargers have picked up back-to-back wins at home heading into this week’s road game. Los Angeles is now 3-2 on the season, 2-3 against the spread and 4-1 with the over. The Chargers are 1-1 against the spread on the road thus far.
Los Angeles is putting up 27.4 points and 414.6 yards per game in 2018. Philip Rivers continues to thrive, throwing for 1,495 yards and 13 touchdowns with just two interceptions in five games. Melvin Gordon is also having another strong year, rushing for 334 yards and three touchdowns while catching 28 passes for 261 yards and three more scores. Defensively, the Chargers are still without pass rusher Joey Bosa. The unit has allowed 26 points and 379.8 yards per game, but their run defense is limiting opponents to just 95.6 yards per contest. Derwin James is leading the defense with 31 tackles, three sacks and six pass deflections.
NFL Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Browns are just 7-17 against the spread in their last 24 home games and 3-14-1 ATS in their last 18 games against a winning team.
Los Angeles
The Chargers have failed to cover in their last four after a cover and are 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a win of more than 14 points.
Prediction:
Perhaps we are giving the Browns too much credit. They are just 2-2-1 on the season. However, I like Cleveland today. The Browns have had all of their games come down to the wire and their defense has played pretty well at home. The Chargers have to come across the country and their two previous road games have been somewhat underwhelming. The Browns have a chip on their shoulder and should find a way to win late once again.
NFL Prediction: Cleveland Browns -1
