Cowboys big favorite vs. Lions
ARLINGTON, TX (The Spread) – The Dallas Cowboys hope to begin a march toward the Super Bowl today, but the Detroit Lions are standing in their way. They meet at 4:40 PM ET on FOX.
Dallas is arguably the hottest team coming into the playoffs, as they have won four straight games, all by double figures, to get to 12-4 on the season and win the NFC East. The Cowboys were 10-6 against the spread on the year, covering in their last four games while hitting the over in five of their last seven games.
Detroit is making its second playoff appearance since 2000 today. The Lions went 11-5 on the season, but suffered a 30-20 loss at Green Bay last week in their bid to claim the NFC North title. The Lions were 7-9 against the spread on the year and they have failed to cover in their last three games while hitting the under in six of their last nine games.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Dallas is the clear favorite in this game, as the Cowboys are getting odds of -6.5 points against the Lions. The over/under total for the game has been set at 48 points (View Matchup). Detroit has won two straight meetings with Dallas and covered in three of the last five meetings. These two have hit the over in their last five meetings as well.
The focus of this game will be on the Dallas ground game against the Detroit run defense. The Lions have the league’s best rushing defense, allowing just 69.3 yards per game on the ground. Dallas has the league’s leading rusher in DeMarco Murray, who tallied 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. Detroit will also have to deal with Tony Romo, who has thrown for 3,705 yards and 34 touchdowns, but stopping Murray will help the Lions key in on Romo.
