Cowboys struggle in fourth
Dallas allowed 10 points in the fourth quarter in its preseason opener at San Francisco last week to fall 17-9. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush drew the start behind center and completed 16-of-26 passes for 142 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Mike Weber led the ground game with only 18 yards on six carries. Devin Smith paced the receiving corps with three catches for 54 yards, while tight end Blake Jarwin had four receptions for 51. George Iloka and Justin Phillips paced the defense with five tackles each, four being solo. Luke Gifford and Donovan Wilson each registered an interception. Brett Maher accounted for all the points as he was 3-for-4 on field goal attempts with a long of 40 yards.
Rams held to a field goal
Los Angeles could not get much going offensively in its preseason opener as it fell 14-3 at Oakland. Greg Zuerlein provided the only offense with a 36-yard field goal in the second quarter. John Wolford went 6-for-8 through the air for 54 yards to lead the quarterbacks. Darrell Henderson led the ground game as he had six carries for 13 yards. KhaDarel Hodge accounted for three receptions for 48 yards. Troy Reeder had eight tackles (six solo) to help lead the defense, while Landis Durham registered seven tackles (four solo) plus a sack. Steven Parker and Kevin Peterson both had an interception.
NFL Betting Trends
Dallas
The Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. Dallas is 0-3-1 ATS in its last four Saturday games.
Los Angeles
The Rams are 4-0 ATS in their last four games versus the NFC. Los Angeles is 1-5 ATS in its last six Saturday games.
Prediction:
With backup quarterbacks playing most of this game, I trust the Cowboys more with the steady Rush behind center. Dallas showed a little more in its preseason opener and the Rams aren’t likely to push anyone important very hard after playing into February last season. I’m giving the points here and taking the favored Cowboys in Honolulu.
