Thomas or Spieth?
Jordan Spieth is great at Augusta. Demaryius Thomas is the Broncos’ best receiver. Who will do better on the big stage of Super Bowl 50 and The Masters?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, one of the cross-sport props you can wager on is what will be higher, Thomas’ receiving yards in Super Bowl 50 or Spieth’s first round score in the 2016 Masters? Thomas has been given odds of -140 to have the higher total while Spieth is at +100.
The first number to consider is probably Spieth. He has played in the Masters twice in his career and won in 2015 while placing second in 2014. He has been tremendous at Augusta. Last year he opened the tournament with a 64 and he didn’t finish with a score above 70 in the four rounds. In 2014, Spieth carded a 71 in his opening round and he also shot a 70 twice while finishing with a 72 on Sunday. Logically, Spieth isn’t likely to go over 75 in his first round of The Masters.
Thomas, then would need to be anywhere in the 70-80-yard range or more to win this bet. This season, Thomas has 105 receptions for 1,304 yards. He averaged 81.5 yards per game during the regular season. However, his playoff numbers have been tame, as he has just six catches for 52 yards over the two games combined. Still, Thomas has had eight games with over 70 yards and seven with 80 or more. Given his low output this postseason, Denver may look to him more in this game. We know an ideal range for Spieth, but Thomas is not so predictable.
