Denver Broncos Fantasy Spin
Joe Flacco completed 35-of-50 passes for 292 yards with one touchdown and one interception Sunday in Denver’s Week 2 loss to the Bears. He absorbed two sacks for a loss of 10 yards in the losing effort. Flacco didn’t move the needle much early (14-of-18 for 97 yards in the first half) but put up a big stat line with Denver trailing in the second half. The former Super Bowl MVP made an inexcusable mistake in the fourth quarter, throwing an interception on third-and-goal from the two-yard-line (Emmanuel Sanders had been his intended receiver). However, Flacco showed impressive resiliency, redeeming himself with a touchdown pass to Sanders, which he followed up with a successful two-point conversion (also to Sanders) with 31 seconds remaining. That staked Denver to a slim 14-13 advantage, though that lead would prove short-lived as Eddy Pineiro sunk the Broncos’ comeback hopes with a walk-off field goal from 52 yards out. The Broncos will look to avoid an 0-3 start when they travel to Green Bay in Week 3.
Green Bay Packers Fantasy Spin
Coach Matt LaFleur said he wants to “even up” the touches between Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams. Williams just won’t go away. Jones gashed the Vikings for a 23-116-1 rushing line with 4-34 as a receiver, but LaFleur still won’t commit to him as a lead back. We’re starting to wonder about LaFleur as a coach. He did this with Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis last season in Tennessee before realizing way too late in the year that Henry should be a workhorse. Jones is the far greater talent, but his coach apparently wants to hold him back in order to “keep him fresh.” Jones will be an RB2 as a massive eight-point home favorite against Denver.
NFL Betting Trends
Denver
The under is 5-0-1 in the Broncos’ last six road games and is 6-0 in their last six games coming off a loss.
Green Bay
The under is 4-1 in the Packers’ last five games overall and is 4-1 in their last five home contests.
Prediction
Even though they scored a quick 21 points last Sunday versus the Vikings, the Packers offense struggle from the second quarter on. Aaron Rodgers did not play in the preseason and as he learns LaFleur’s new system, it’ll take some time for this Green Bay offense to get rolling. Meanwhile, the Broncos have a new QB in Flacco but unlike the Packers, I doubt Denver’s offense will get rolling at some point. The Broncos just aren’t very productive on that side of the ball. With the way Green Bay’s defense has played to open the season, the under looks like the best play when it comes to the total.
