The Lions picked up their first win of the season last week while the Eagles were handed their first loss of 2019. The two teams will meet in Philadelphia on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET and with the total sitting at 45.5 points, what’s the best approach for bettors?

Detroit Lions Fantasy Spin
Matthew Stafford completed 27-of-45 passes for 385 yards and three touchdowns in the Lions’ 27-27, Week 1 tie with the Cardinals. Stafford was aided by overtime, but his 385 yards were 38 more than he managed in any 2018 start. Stafford couldn’t make a play when it mattered most late in the fourth quarter and overtime, but he was dealing early, and found first-rounder T.J. Hockenson for a scintillating 6/131/1. Fellow newcomer Danny Amendola also went 7/104/1. Of course, the eruption was almost certainly a one off against one of the league’s worst defenses. Although shootout conditions could once again develop against the Chargers in Week 2, Stafford will firmly remain a QB2.
Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Spin
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo would consider it a “really good outcome” for the Eagles if either Alshon Jeffery (calf) or DeSean Jackson (groin) are ready by Week 5. The Eagles are playing it coy with Alshon and D-Jax, calling both “day to day” coming off injuries in last week’s loss to Atlanta. Neither player practiced Thursday, and the expectation is that they won’t suit up Sunday against Detroit. With a short week on tap after that (the Eagles visit Green Bay next Thursday night), both could be looking at multi-week absences. Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor would figure to be the main beneficiaries in that scenario, though second-round rookie J.J. Arecega-Whiteside should also be in for more work.
NFL Betting Trends
Detroit
The under is 8-1 in the Lions’ last nine games overall and is 6-1 in their last seven conference matchups.
Philadelphia
The under is 10-4 in the Eagles’ last 14 home games and is 4-1 in their last five games overall.
Prediction
The Falcons bruised and battered Carson Wentz last week and if the Eagles can’t get healthy in the next couple of days they will be limited again this Sunday when they host the Lions. Detroit has an underrated defense but still lack for big plays on offense. The Eagles have a solid front seven but can be had in the secondary, yet the Lions aren’t firing on all cylinders in the passing game. Thus, I see this game turning into a bit of a slog fest with limited big plays and thus, limited scoring.
