Miami Dolphins Fantasy Spin
Josh Rosen has been named the Dolphins’ starting quarterback for Week 3 against the Cowboys. Coach Brian Flores made the decision Thursday afternoon. Ryan Fitzpatrick fared disastrously during his two-week reign as starter, compiling a miserable 39.9 quarterback rating with four interceptions, two of which were housed for scores. It makes sense for the Dolphins to see what they have in Rosen, though it’s hard to imagine him succeeding with so few weapons at his disposal. Fitzpatrick spent most of his first two games running for his life behind the Dolphins’ anemic offensive line and Rosen is headed for the same fate. Even in two-quarterback settings, Rosen won’t carry much fantasy weight.
Dallas Cowboys Fantasy Spin
Ezekiel Elliott is expected to see his “normal workload” in Week 3 against Miami. The Cowboys have been limiting Elliott’s reps coming off his 40-day holdout. He played 54 percent and 77 percent of snaps in Weeks 1 and 2. Elliott should regain his every-down status this week, but it’s possible he’s rested in the second half of a projected blowout. Elliott is our No. 4 running back play for Week 3.
NFL Betting Trends
Miami
The Dolphins are 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 games when facing an opponent with a winning record and have dropped five straight against the number in their last five games.
Dallas
The Cowboys are 13-6-1 against the spread in their last 20 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous contest.
Prediction
I’m taking the same approach here as I did with the Jets-Patriots spread, which is also higher than three touchdowns. This is the NFL and while the Dolphins have been blown out in back-to-back weeks, handing 22 points to a team is absurd. The Cowboys look like a legitimate Super Bowl contender but they also have only played the Giants and Redskins. As I wrote with the Patriots, the ‘Boys could sleepwalk through Sunday’s game and still win by 17 but not cover. I’m taking the points.
