Miami Dolphins DFS Spin
Detroit’s defense is second worst in the league in yards allowed per pass attempt (7.7), and third worst in yards allowed per rush attempt (5.3). This plays into Miami’s strengths as they are third in the NFL in yards per pass attempt at 8.1. Tua Tagovailoa was back at quarterback last week in Miami’s win over Pittsburgh after missing multiple games with a concussion. He might be a nice value play at QB if you’re looking to save money on the position.
Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill is a must-start against Detroit on Sunday. He is leading the NFL in catches (57), targets (78), receiving yards (773), and catches of 20+ yards (12). With Tua back and this game being played in a dome and on turf, Tyreek Hill could be primed for a monster day.
Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was on the injury report all week but practiced fully Friday and won’t have an injury designation for Sunday’s game in Detroit. Even so, wide receiver Trent Sherfield and tight end Mike Gesicki might see more targets if Waddle isn’t 100% this weekend.
Detroit Lions DFS Spin
Lions quarterback Jared Goff has struggled the past two weeks, throwing for 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions while taking 7 sacks. He could be a nice bounce-back candidate this week against a Miami defense that is allowing 7.2 yards per pass attempt, a mark that ranks 24th in the league. Goff will likely have to throw the ball over 30 times for the Lions to cover this game, so he might have some value as a long-shot play.
Detroit star running back D’Andre Swift practiced fully this Wednesday which would seemingly put him on track to play against Miami this weekend. But that’s not a sure thing as he practiced all of last week and missed the Lions’ game against the Cowboys. For the season, Swift is averaging 8.6 yards per carry and 9.6 yards per catch. He’s a dynamic back and would have some value if he suits up on Sunday.
If Swift doesn’t play, backup running back Jamaal Williams will see a heavier workload. Williams has carried the ball at least 15 times in each of the games that Swift has missed, and should see about that many carries if Swift can’t play or is limited on Sunday.
Dolphins vs. Lions Betting Trends
Miami is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following an outright win.
Miami is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing fewer than 15 points in their previous game.
Detroit is 0-9 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 8.
The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between Miami and Detroit.
Dolphins vs. Lions Prediction:
The Miami Dolphins still haven’t lost a game that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has started and finished. Their offense is explosive with him at the helm. Miami is averaging 6.1 yards per play this year, the 6th best figure in the league. Conversely, Detroit’s defense is allowing 6.4 yards per play, the most in the NFL. I think Miami’s speed plays extremely well on the field turf in Detroit and they score enough points to win and cover.
