The Athletic reports there is “optimism” Miles Sanders (hamstring) will be ready for Week 1. Per reporters Bo Wulf and Zach Berman, “the early word is Sanders should be back on the field by then.” The reporters did allow there is “intrigue” with the recurrence of Sanders’ hamstring woes, but coach Nick Sirianni has hinted the team is largely exercising caution. There are 22 days between now and the Eagles’ opener. Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott would form a committee were Sanders not ready to go.

ProFootballTalk reports that Deshaun Watson will be suspended for 11 games with a $5 million fine. A copy of an agreement between the NFL and NFLPA surfaced on Twitter, which a ProFootballTalk source indicated is real. The ruling indicates that Watson’s 11-game suspension will begin after final roster cutdown. He will be eligible for reinstatement on November 28. The settlement directs Watson’s $5 million fine, along with $1 million each from the Browns and the NFL, into a fund to “support the work of non-profit organizations across the country.” While the prospect of seeing Watson on the field in 2022 remains jarring, the NFL’s goal of an indefinite suspension took a hit when Judge Suan Robinson issued a ruling of a six-game suspension. Watson will be eligible to return in Week 13 when, unbelievably, the Browns travel to Houston to play the Texans.

Eagles vs. Browns Prediction:
This is a low total, even for a preseason game. Both of these teams are coached by offensive-minded front men in Nick Sirianni (Eagles) and Kevin Stefanski (Browns), the latter of which needs to prepare for life without Watson over the first 11 games. Thus, getting Jacoby Brissett ready to start and Joshua Dobbs/Josh Rosen prepared to be Brissett’s backup is a major priority. Cleveland scored 24 points in its 24-13 win over Jacksonville last week, while Philly scored 21 in a 24-21 loss to the Jets. I expect these two teams to at least match that output today and put us in range to cash the over.
