Five Best Super Bowl 52 Prop Bets
There are hundreds of Super Bowl 52 prop bets available at online and Vegas sportsbooks. Here are five that we believe are the best bets.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book YouWager, the Patriots are currently 4.5-point favorites to knock off the Eagles in Super Bowl 52 tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET. Philadelphia opened as a 6-point underdog before the number was driven down to 4, then back up to 4.5. As for the total, the number opened at 47.5 but is now up to 48.5 at most sportsbooks.
As of this writing, just over 50% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Eagles to cover the spread. That said, 55% of the money wagered at online sportsbooks is on the Patriots.
Bet Patriots vs. Eagles Super Bowl LII
Prop Bet 1: Will Either Team Score in the First 6.5 Minutes of the Game?
The Patriots have appeared in seven Super Bowls under Bill Belichick. In the first quarter of those seven Super Bowls, the Patriots have scored a combined 0 points. That’s right, the Patriots, in all of their glory over the past 18 years, have not scored in the first quarter of any of their Super Bowls. Now, even if that trend holds up, the Eagles could score in the first 6.5 minutes of the game and ruin this prop. That said, I expect New England to take away the deep ball and force Philly to go on long drives in efforts to score. If I’m right about that prediction, then “no” is a great bet here.
Super Bowl 52 Prop Prediction: No (20/23)
Prop Bet 2: Will Patriots Score a Touchdown in First Quarter
This prop goes with Prop 1. As previously mentioned, the Patriots have not scored a single point in the first quarter of any of their previous Super Bowls under Bill Belichick. That trend could change tonight with everyone focusing on it, but that would assume that the trend is random. I think this is by design. Belichick understands that you can’t win the Super Bowl in the first quarter but you could put yourself in a huge hole by being overly aggressive when all of your players are running on adrenaline and more-likely to make mistakes. Thus, even if the Pats score in the first quarter, it could be a field goal and not a TD.
Super Bowl 52 Prop Bet Prediction: No (20/27)
Prop #3: Tom Brady Touchdown Passes Thrown 1.5
Oddsmakers love to inflate the lines when it comes to Super Bowl prop bets, especially when it comes to stars like Brady. That’s because they know public bettors like to bet on “yes” when it comes to player prop wagers. This is why I think the props involving Brady’s completions, yardage and attempts are good spots for the under. That said, the one over I do like when it comes to Brady is how many touchdowns he’ll throw. In his four games, including his two playoff games, he’s thrown at least two touchdowns. Philly’s defense is nasty and this prop bet might not hit until the second half but this is a good roll of the dice.
Super Bowl 52 Prop Bet Prediction: Tom Brady Over 1.5 Touchdowns
Prop Bet #4: Danny Amendola Total Receptions 4.5
Here’s another prop that I like to go over. The Patriots’ passing game is all about rhythm and timing. There are a number of “option” routes for receivers like Amendola that require him to be in sync with Tom Brady. Brady knows which way his receivers are going to break out of their routes by what the defense is showing him. He’s been in sync with Amendola for most of the second half of the season. Amendola caught seven of nine targets for 84 yards against the Jaguars in the AFC title game and 11-of-13 targets for 112 yards against the Titans in the Divisional Round. No reason to believe he’ll finish with fewer than five receptions tonight.
Super Bowl 52 Prop Bet Prediction: Danny Amendola Over 4.5 Receptions
Prop Bet #5: Chris Hogan Total Receptions 2.5
I just got done writing about how the Patriots use plenty of option routes in their passing game. Brady is in lock step with Amendola and Gronkowski, as well as his running backs, who are used a lot as receivers and in the screen game. That hasn’t left many opportunities for Hogan, who missed a lot of time this season due to injury. In his last three games, Hogan has caught just three passes on eight targets for 25 yards. He’s fallen out of favor in New England’s offense and while a Super Bowl revival is always possible, I don’t see it.
