Falcons a home dog vs. Steelers

ATLANTA, GA (The Spread) – The Atlanta Falcons have found a way to remain atop the NFC South. Will that continue this week when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1PM ET on CBS?

View Current NFL Odds

The Falcons are coming off a 43-37 loss at Green bay on Monday night to fall to 5-8 on the season. Despite the poor record, Atlanta is tied with New Orleans for first in the NFC South and currently has the tiebreaker due to a head-to-head win. Atlanta is 3-2 in its last five but both losses were by one score and the team has shown a new sign of life over the second half of the season. The Falcons are now 6-7 against the spread, covering in four of their last six games.

Pittsburgh is coming off a 42-21 win at Cincinnati last Sunday to get to 8-5 on the season. The Steelers are ½ a game off the Bengals for first in the AFC North. They have been a streaky team all season, only going on one win streak this year, which was three games. They have never lost consecutive games this year. Pittsburgh is 6-7 against the spread this season, but just 1-3 ATS in its last 4 games.

Oddsmakers don’t want to give the Falcons much respect, as oddsmakers from Bovada.lv have given the Steelers odds of -3 points at Atlanta on Sunday. The over/under total has been listed at 54 points (View Matchup). The home team is 3-0-1 in the last four games between these two, dating back to 1999. The Falcons are also 4-1 ATS in their last five against the Steelers.

Pittsburgh’s offense has been hard to stop as of late due to the recent play of Le’Veon Bell, who has amassed over 200 yards of offense in three straight games. On the season, Pittsburgh is averaging 427 yards per game, making them one of the top offenses in the NFL. They meet an Atlanta defense that is among the worst, allowing 410.7 yards per game. The Falcons’ defense will have to improve on those numbers if they hope to win on Sunday.
