Falcons vs. Seahawks Prediction
Are the Seattle Seahawks a safe bet to cover the point spread as a home favorite tonight when they host the Atlanta Falcons? Kick-off for Monday night is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
Who Oddsmakers Like: Seattle. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Seahawks are 1-point home favorites versus the Falcons, who opened as 3-point road underdogs. Meanwhile, the over/under currently sits at 46 points after hitting the board at 45.
Who the Public Likes: Atlanta. As of this writing, just over 50% of tickets are on the Falcons to cover the small spread. Some of those bettors likely had Atlanta at +3.
Who the Trends Like: Seattle. The Seahawks are 8-2-1 against the spread in their last 11 games played on Monday night and are 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight games played in November. The Falcons, meanwhile, are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games and are 1-5 against the number in their last six games overall.
Who We Like: Seattle. The injuries concern me. Kam Chancellor is out with a neck injury and Richard Sherman will miss the rest o the season with a torn Achilles. Offensive tackle Duane Brown is also questionable with an ankle injury but I expect him to play. Michael Bennett (heel) and Earl Thomas (hamstring) are also probable, which is huge for the Seahawks.
Despite the injuries for Seattle, I just don’t trust Atlanta. Any time the Falcons have been challenged this season they’ve tucked tale and run. Yes, they’re coming off an impressive 27-7 win over the Cowboys last week. But without Sean Lee, Ezekiel Elliott and Tyron Smith, we saw how competitive Dallas was again Sunday night when it got rocked by Philadelphia in the second half. That win for the Falcons was nice, but not as impressive as you’d think.
Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin are enough offensively to put up enough points to beat a Falcons team that is highly inconsistent. And despite having some issues at corner, the Seahawks will pressure Matt Ryan into a couple of mistakes that will change field position and put Atlanta on tilt. And when the Falcons are on tilt, well, we all know what happens then.
