Packers 2012-13 Season Odds
(The Spread) – Will the Green Bay Packers make another deep postseason run and challenge for the Super Bowl?
According to oddsmakers the Packers are 6/1 to win the 2013 Super Bowl and 10/3 to win the 2013 NFC Championship. They’re also –225 on the money line to win the NFC North Division and have an over/under of 12 for number of wins they’ll have in the regular season.
The Packers usually avoid spending big money in free agency and instead focus on the draft and re-signing their own players. Thus, the only impact signing they made this offseason was plucking running back Cedric Benson off the market months after free agency opened. Among Green Bay’s losses were quarterback Matt Flynn (Seahawks), center Scott Wells (Rams), and running back Ryan Grant (FA).
In the 2012 draft, the Packers selected USC DE/OLB Nick Perry with their first-round pick and took Michigan State defensive tackle Jerel Worthy and Vanderbilt cornerback Casey Hayward in the second. In the fourth Green Bay took Iowa defensive tackle Mike Daniels and Maine safety Jerron McMillian.
Thanks to Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy’s explosive offense, the Packers will challenge for a playoff berth and perhaps the Super Bowl as well. They arguably have the most talent among any team in the NFC and although their offensive line remains a question mark, Rodgers will make up for some of the Packers’ weaknesses. The defense should also rebound after finishing dead last in 2011 and if Green Bay can snag one of the top two spots in the NFC this team will be tough to beat in the postseason.
