Mike McCarthy is entering his 11th season with the Packers. The team has their four-year run as NFC North champions snapped last year by the Vikings despite going 10-6. Green Bay has won at least 11 games in five of his 10 seasons leading the team.

Green Bay lost stud receiver Jordy Nelson before the start of the 2015 season, but he is back this year. That should help the Packers improve on their No. 23 ranking. Surprisingly, the Packers were 25th in passing yards per game despite having Aaron Rodgers under center. Rodgers still threw for 31 touchdowns, but had only 3,821 yards. With Nelson back, that should allow Rodgers to get back to a lot of deep balls. The big question on offense this year is Eddie Lacy. After impressive seasons in 2013 and 2014, he took a big step back last year, rushing for just 758 yards with only three touchdowns. His weight became an issue, but an aggressive offseason training schedule seems to have put him back on track.

Bet on 2016 Green Bay Packers Odds

On defense, the Packers were a middle-of-the-road unit, ranking 15th in the NFL in 2015. The team has looked to add to the unit by using four of their first five draft picks on defense, including UCLA DT Kenny Clark with their first-round selection. He should pair nicely with a solid front seven unit, led by Julius Peppers. Peppers had 10.5 sacks last season. They also have Clay Matthews back, who had 6.5 sacks in 2015 with 66 tackles. In the secondary, the Packers will rely on the development of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who led the team in tackles with 100 and also had two interceptions in his second season.

Green Bay should have a pretty good sense of how the season is going to go early on. They open on the road at Jacksonville and Minnesota before getting four straight at home. If they can win those two games early, especially in Minnesota, they should be able to control the division once again and make a push for a top record in the NFC. The offense should definitely improve with Nelson and a conditioned Lacy back. Barring a Rodgers injury, it’s hard to see the Packers not being one of the best teams in the NFL.

2016 NFL WIN TOTAL PICK: GREEN BAY PACKERS OVER 10.5 (-150)
