Texans 2012-13 Season Odds
HOUSTON, TX (The Spread) – After qualifying for the postseason for the first time in franchise history last year, the Houston Texans hope to take the next step in 2012.
According to oddsmakers, the Texans are 12/1 to win the 2013 Super Bowl and 11/2 to win the 2013 AFC Championship. They’re also –400 on the money line to win the AFC South Division and they have an over/under of 10 for number of wins in the regular season.
The Texans absorbed a huge loss in free agency when Mario Williams signed a six-year deal with the Bills. Houston also took a hit on the offensive side of the ball when offensive tackle Eric Winston signed with the Chiefs, although the Texans were able to re-sign center Chris Myers to a new deal. Justin Forsett was also signed for depth along the running back position.
The Texans went defense with their first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft but then selected four consecutive offensive players in Rounds 3 and 4. Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus was Houston’s first-round pick while Ohio State wide receiver DeVier Posey and Miami (OH) guard Brandon Brooks were the team’s second round selections. In the fourth, the Texans took Georgia center Ben Jones and Michigan State wide receiver Keshawn Martin.
The Texans had one of the best defenses in the league last season without Williams, so there should be no drop off this season. The key is whether or not quarterback Matt Schaub and receiver Andre Johnson can stay healthy. They haven’t been able to over the past few years and while T.J. Yates did a fantastic job leading Houston to the playoffs last season, the Texans won’t reach a Super Bowl until Schaub stays healthy and consistent throughout. He’ll have plenty of help thanks to running back Arian Foster and Ben Tate, so we’ll see if the Texans can make a deep postseason run in 2012.
