Redskins vs. Lions Pick
Will the Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions get into a shootout when they meet up this Sunday at 1PM ET?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Lions are favored at home in this game, as Detroit is getting odds of -1 point against the Redskins. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 49 points. The Lions have won three straight meetings with the Redskins and the two are 7-1-2 with the under in the last 10 meetings.
The Lions are coming off a 31-28 win over the Rams last week to move to 3-3 on the season and 4-2 with the over. Detroit has won back-to-back games and they have hit the over in all three wins this season. The Lions are only averaging 363.3 yards and 25 points per game this season, but Matthew Stafford is having arguably the best season he’s had in his career right now. He has thrown for 1,648 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing 68.9 percent of his passes. He also has just four interceptions. Stafford also has run for 94 yards, ranking third on the team. More impressive is Stafford is doing all this without much of a run game as Ameer Abdullah has been hurt all season while Theo Riddick missed last week’s game. Defensively, Detroit is struggling, giving up 25.5 points and 389.8 yards per game, including 281.5 passing yards per contest. The unit has created just four turnovers this season. The defense continues to be without DT Haloti Ngata and LB DeAndre Levy due to lingering injuries.
Washington is rolling coming into this week, winning four straight games. The Redskins beat the Eagles last week 27-20. They are now 5-1 with the over. They are posting and allowing both 23.7 points per game. The offense is averaging 398 yards per game while the defense is giving up 383 yards per contest. After a slow start, Kirk Cousins has picked up his game. He has thrown for 1,695 yards and nine touchdowns on the season with six interceptions. The key for him will be if Jordan Reed can return to action this week after missing last week’s game with a concussion. The Lions have really struggled against tight ends, so Reed would have a prime matchup if he can go. While Washington is giving up a lot of yards on defense, it also has a good pass rush with 16 sacks. That should matchup well against Detroit which has allowed 15 sacks this season.

This game has all the makings of being a high-scoring contest, as Detroit has been solid in its last two games at home while the Redskins are on a four-game win streak thanks to their offense. Both Cousins and Stafford are shaping up to have monster games. If Reed can play, the Redskins will score at will on this Lions defense. Washington may be able to create some problems for Detroit with its pass rush, but the Lions will find ways to break some big plays with Stafford. The total is high, but I feel good about the over hitting.
