Jaguars host Titans on Thursday night in battle of two of NFL’s worst teams

Titans, Jags open Week 16

JACKSONVILLE, FL (The Spread) – It’s not likely to be pretty, but it will be NFC action when the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Tennessee Titans tonight at 8:25PM ET on the NFL Network.

The Jaguars are coming off a 20-12 loss at Baltimore last Sunday to fall to 2-12 on the season. It was the second straight loss for the Jags. They come into tonight’s game at 4-9-1 against the spread on the season, but they have covered in two of their last three games. They have also hit the under in three of their last four meetings.

The Titans are coming off a 16-11 loss at home to the Jets on Sunday to also fall to 2-12 on the season. Tennessee has now lost eight straight comes coming into tonight and they are just 3-10-1 against the spread on the year. The Titans have failed to cover in four straight and six of their last seven. They have also hit the under in back-to-back games.

The oddsmakers like the Jaguars at home in this game, as oddsmakers from Bovada.lv have given Jacksonville odds of -3.5 points against the Titans. The over/under total for the game has been set at 40.5 points (View Matchup). The Titans have won three of their last four against the Jaguars, but Jacksonville is 6-1-1 against the spread in its last 8 against Tennessee.

These two met back on Oct. 12 in Tennessee, with the Titans scoring a 16-14 victory. The game was evenly matched, but a pair of turnovers by the Jaguars were costly. The Titans had just 290 yards of offense, but the turnovers gave the Titans a short field to score points. Blake Bortles threw for 336 yards in the loss while Charlie Whitehurst had 233 passing yards. Both teams look different on offense now and one would expect Bortles to have developed further as a quarterback in the two months of extra time.
