Fitzpatrick could play entire first half
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – Something for bettors to consider if wagering on Friday’s NFL preseason action: The Jets will play their starters deep into the first half.
Rich Cimini of ESPN.com writes that “the plan” is for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to play “most of the first half” versus the Falcons on Friday night. As Cimini notes, Fitzpatrick needs the reps after replacing Geno Smith as the team’s starter after Smith suffered a broken jaw two weeks ago.
Fitzpatrick has only participated in five practices and one game possession with the starters since taking over for Smith. He’ll face an Atlanta defense that sacked, intercepted and forced a fumble against Tennessee starter Marcus Mariota last week. The Falcons have a new look on defense thanks to coach Dan Quinn, who was hired to replace Mike Smith this offseason.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Jets are 1-point home favorites over the Falcons for tonight’s game, while the total is sitting at 39 points. Kickoff is set for 7:30PM ET.
