Jets vs. Patriots Week 16 Picks: Score to fall under betting total? 12/21/16

Jets vs. Patriots Pick

Will the combined score fall under the betting total when the Patriots host the Jets at 1:00PM ET on Saturday in Foxboro?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Patriots are 16.5-point home favorites versus the Jets while the over/under currently sits at 43.5 points. Both the total and the side have moved off the original numbers posted by oddsmakers, as the over/under went from 44 down to 43.5 and New England went from -14.5 up to -16.5.

The Jets’ horrible season continued last Saturday with a 34-13 loss to the Dolphins at home as a 2.5-point home underdog. That loss was the team’s fifth in its last six games and now New York sits at 4-10 in coach Todd Bowles’ second season. Bryce Petty suffered a chest injury in the loss but he participated in the Jets’ practice on Tuesday and is expected to play Christmas Eve in Foxboro.

The Patriots, meanwhile, continue to roll. They have now won five straight since their 31-24 loss to the Seahawks in mid-November and have already wrapped up the AFC East title at 12-2. They’re also 11-3 against the spread and have covered in three straight games. LeGarrette Blount has a league-high 15 touchdowns while Tom Brady has thrown for 3,064 yards despite not playing the first four games due to the “Deflategate” suspension.

OUR PREDICTION: I don’t think the Jets will score more than 10 points but the Patriots could hit the over on their own. The Jets defense gave up weeks ago and while they’re often a thorn in Brady’s side, they’re a mess right now. The over is 7-1-1 in the last nine meetings between these two teams in New England and 11-3-1 in the last 15 meetings overall. The over has also cashed in seven of the Pats’ last 10 home games and is 5-2 in the Jets’ last seven divisional games.
