Kirk Cousins to start over RGIII for Redskins in Week 1?

Cousins to start over RGIII Week 1?

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Spread) – Following his team’s 31-13 win over the Ravens on Saturday, coach Jay Gruden admitted that there was confusion over Robert Griffin III’s current health.

After an independent neurologist told the Redskins on Thursday that RGIII would be cleared to play versus the Ravens, further examination by a neuropsychologist resulted in the neurologist reversing his decision. That left Griffin sidelined for Washington’s victory over Baltimore on Saturday night.

What’s even more interesting is the report by ESPN’s Dianna Russini, who says the Redskins plan to start Kirk Cousins over RGIII in Week 1 of the NFL regular season. Cousins was 20-of-27 passing for 190 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the win over Baltimore.

“We have to re-evaluate the tape. We have to find out how Robert is,” Gruden said after the game. “[Griffin] has to go through the protocol and get retested. We’ll see how he’s doing then and make our decision.

“I’m not going to announce anything [tonight], and there is no controversy.”

According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Redskins are currently 3.5-point home underdogs versus the Dolphins for Week 1 of the regular season. That number could change if Cousins is named the starter ahead of kickoff.
