Stafford ready for Rams
The St. Louis Rams are known for their defense, but injuries have caused the unit to struggle as of late. Will Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions beat up the Rams?
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, the Lions are favored on the road in Sunday’s game, as Detroit is getting odds of -3 points against the Rams. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 41 points. These two meet today at 1PM ET on FOX.
On paper, expecting a QB to have big success against the Rams (4-8, 4-7-1 ATS) seems like a bad idea. St. Louis ranks 12th in the NFL in passing defense, allowing just 239.9 yards per game through the air, but injuries have caused those numbers to increase week-by-week. CB Janoris Jenkins is doubtful to play with a concussion while DE Robert Quinn and S T.J. McDonald both went under the knife this week with injuries. The injuries have taken their toll on the St. Louis pass defense, as the Rams have given up an average of 288.7 passing yards over their last four games. They have also allowed 9 passing touchdowns in that span.
Today the Rams face the Detroit Lions (4-8, 4-8 ATS) who have had some improved offensive numbers since firing OC Joe Lombardi. Matthew Stafford has thrown for 3,164 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. He has thrown for seven touchdowns over the last two weeks and has seven games with at least two TD passes. Stafford has had at least 220 yards in his last four games and has thrown for over 280 yards five times this year. With a healthy compliment of targets like Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Eric Ebron, look for Stafford to light up a beat-up St. Louis defense. Oddsmakers have set Stafford’s over/under at 269.5 yards passing today.
