Lions vs. Packers Week 17 Odds
GREEN BAY, WI (The Spread) – With a victory over the Packers on Sunday, the Lions will secure the No. 5 seed in the NFC.
DETROIT: With their impressive victory over the Chargers last Saturday, the Lions did something they haven’t done since 1999: Clinch a playoff berth. With a win over Green Bay on Sunday, Detroit would clinch the No. 5 seed in the NFC and travel to either New York or Dallas in the first round of the playoffs. With the Packers expected to rest their starters at some point during Sunday’s game, the Lions have a great opportunity to avoid a sweep to Green Bay, gain some momentum heading into the playoffs and also avoid having to play New Orleans (who is likely to wind up with the No. 3 seed) in the first round. A victory this Sunday is paramount for Detroit.
GREEN BAY: With their victory over the Bears on Christmas night, the Packers secured the No. 1 seed in the NFC and now have the luxury of resting guys like Aaron Rodgers if they choose to. Chances are Rodgers and the rest of Green Bay’s starters will play a few series before giving way to their backups, but there’s no sense risking injury with a chance to win another Super Bowl. The Pack offense looks unstoppable again this year and while Dom Capers’ defense hasn’t played up to the level it did in 2010, it’s good enough to get Green Bay to another Super Bowl.

ODDS: Oddsmakers have installed the Lions as a 3.5-point favorite over the Packers this weekend, while the over/under total for Sunday’s game is currently sitting at 46.5. Detroit enters the week with a 10-5 overall record and is 5-2 on the road this year, while Green Bay is 14-1 overall and 7-0 at home.
TRENDS: The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams while the favorite is 7-3 against the spread in the last 10 meetings. The Lions are just 4-9-1 against the spread in their last 14 trips to Green Bay and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against the Packers. The road team, however, is 5-2 against the number in the last seven meetings between these two teams.
