Lions vs. Seahawks Prediction

Is it worth laying over a touchdown tonight on the Seahawks when they host the Lions in the NFL Wildcard playoff matchup at 8:15PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Seahawks are 8-point home favorites versus the Lions after the number hit the board at 7.5. The total, meanwhile, is sitting at 43.5 after it opened at 43 points at the majority of sports books.

DETROIT KEY TRENDS: The Lions are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, are 0-4 against the number in their last four games overall and are 0-4 at the betting window in their last four conference games as well. They’re also just 16-33-2 against the spread in their last 51 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.

SEATTLE KEY TRENDS: The Seahawks have covered the spread in four of their last five home games and 21-6-2 against the number in their last 29 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game. That said, they’re just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games in January and are winless at 0-4 at the betting window in their last four playoff games.

OUR PREDICTION: It’s often the hottest teams that win championships in sports and not the best ones. Well, the Lions are one of the coldest teams in this year’s NFL field, losing three straight. The Seahawks have their issues, most notably along the offensive line and in the secondary where they’ll be without stud free safety Earl Thomas, who is out for the year with a broken leg. That said, they also have the best homefield advantage in all of football and I don’t see a banged-up Matthew Stafford going into Seattle and pulling off the upset. If the Lions had a better running game and a defense that was playing well, then maybe it would be a different story. As they’re currently constructed, the Seahawks win this one by 10 tonight.
