Texans vs. Jets NFL Week 5 Odds
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – A struggling, banged up Jets team will face a stiff challenge tonight when they host the Texans at 8:30PM ET.
HOUSTON: The Texans are a perfect 4-0 on the year after beating the Titans 38-14 as a 13-point favorite last Sunday in Houston. They’re now 4-0 against the spread this season and have covered the number relatively easily in all four of their games in 2012. Arian Foster leads the team with five touchdowns and 380 rushing yards, while Matt Schaub has thrown for 953 yards thus far. J.J. Watt has been a monster all season, accumulating 7.5 sacks, while corner Kareem Jackson has a team-high two interceptions. There’s a lot of football left to be played but Houston is already drawing mention as a legit Super Bowl contender.
NEW YORK: The Jets fell to 2-2 with their embarrassing 34-0 loss to the 49ers at home last Sunday. Adding insult to injury was the fact that receiver Santonio Holmes hurt his foot and is now out for the season, joining cornerback Darrelle Revis on IR. Mark Sanchez leads the team in passing with 813 yards, while Jeremy Kerley has come out of nowhere to catch three touchdown passes. The Jets are tied with the Patriots and Bills at 2-2 in the AFC East, but without Revis and Holmes they’ve got their work cut out for them in that division. Things don’t get any easier tonight against a 4-0 Houston team.
ODDS: Oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv have installed the Texans as 9-point home favorites over the Jets, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 41.5 points. Houston is 4-0 overall and 2-0 on the road, while New York is 2-2 overall and 1-1 at home.
TRENDS: The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams while the Texans are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games versus the Jets, who are 1-4 ATS in their last five games in Week 5. Houston is also 7-1 ATS in its last eight road games, 14-3-2 ATS in its last 19 games versus the AFC, and 10-1-1 ATS in its last 12 games following a straight up win.
