Bengals vs. Ravens Week 1 Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – AFC North rivals will clash in the first of two Monday Night Football games when the Ravens host the Bengals at 7:00PM ET.
CINCINNATI: The Bengals were perhaps the biggest surprise in the NFL last year when they made the playoffs despite having rookie starters at quarterback and receiver. But the book remains out on Cincinnati and its second-year quarterback, Andy Dalton. Can he lead them back to the postseason? Can he avoid a sophomore slump? Can he beat top division opponents Baltimore and Pittsburgh? While some believe the Bengals will once again challenge for a postseason berth, Dalton and Co. has plenty to prove in his second year.
BALTIMORE: The Ravens were a dropped pass and a missed field goal away from reaching the Super Bowl last year so hopes remain high in Baltimore. Cam Cameron installed a new no-huddle offense for quarterback Joe Flacco, who has felt in the past that the Ravens have been too conservative with their play calling. The defense is getting long in the tooth and will miss Terrell Suggs, who tore his Achilles in the offseason. But there’s no doubt that this is a title contender.
ODDS: The Ravens opened as 7-point favorites but the spread has climbed to 9 as 61% of the betting public is currently backing Baltimore. The over/under, meanwhile, is sitting at 41.5.
TRENDS: The Bengals are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games in September but 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven games versus the AFC and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five versus the AFC North. The Ravens are 4-0 ATS in their lat four games in Week 1 and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games versus the AFC North. The Bengals are also 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games against the Ravens and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five trips to Baltimore. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams in Baltimore.
