Giants vs. Eagles Spread Prediction
The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles are off to a slow start but they’ll have an opportunity to get back to .500 on Thursday night when they visit their division rivals the Giants at 8:20 p.m. ET. Will Philly cover as a small favorite?
Game Snapshot
103 Philadelphia Eagles at 104 New York Giants
8:20 p.m. ET, Thursday, October 11, 2018
MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Eagles are 3-point favorites to beat the Giants. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44 points. As of this writing, 60% of the public betting tickets are on the Eagles to cover the point spread.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Zach Berman expects a Wendell Smallwood-Corey Clement “mix” Week 6 against the Giants on Thursday night. NJ.com’s Mike Kaye expects the same thing but for it to “favor” Clement due to his “red-zone upside and receiving ability.” Both backs have been good when given their chances this season, but we tend to also lean in preferring Clement to Smallwood. Both players need to be added in all formats.
New York Giants
Evan Engram (knee) is out for Week 6 against the Eagles. Engram returned to practice this week, but the short week with a Thursday night game wasn’t enough time for him to return from his sprained MCL. Engram should be good to go next week against the Falcons.
NFL Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Eagles are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games versus the Giants in New York and 13-6-1 ATS in the last 20 meetings in this series overall.
New York
The Giants are 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 home games and 3-8 against the number in their last 11 games versus NFC opponents.
Prediction
These two teams have their own, separate issues, with the Eagles dealing with injuries on both sides of the ball and Eli Manning struggling for the Giants. But the Eagles have better coaching, they have the better quarterback, and they’re desperate. They’re hearing the “Super Bowl hangover” chatter and good teams tend to rally with their backs against the wall. Carson Wentz completed 24-of-35 for 311 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s loss to the Vikings. He’s slowly starting to shake off the rust and once he’s rolling, so will this Eagle offense, regardless of which running back he’s handing the ball to. I’m going to lay the small number.
