Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Patriots are 13.5-point favorites to beat the Jets. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44.5 points. As of this writing, 60% of the public betting tickets are on the Patriots to cover the point spread.
New York Jets
Jets CB Trumaine Johnson was held out of practice on Wednesday. Asked why, coach Todd Bowles responded it was because of “an in-house matter that we’re dealing with.” Johnson says he will practice Thursday and play in the season finale, but the coach only said, “We’ll see.” Signed to a five-year, $72.5 million contract over the offseason, Johnson has had a disappointing debut season in New York.
New England Patriots
Tom Brady plans to continue his career beyond 2019. 2019 is the final year of his current contract. “I have goals to not only play next year, but beyond that,” Brady confirmed in his weekly interview with Westwood One. “I don’t take any of these things for granted, but I hope I can keep playing, and I hope I can keep playing at a championship level.” The 41-year-old hasn’t played at his usual MVP level this season, though he’s still been reasonably productive, contributing 27 total touchdowns (25 passing, two rushing) over 15 appearances.
NFL Betting Trends
New York
The over is 4-0 in the Jets’ last four games overall but the under is 9-4 in their last 13 divisional games.
New England
The under is 7-1 in the Patriots’ last eight games overall and is 9-2 in their last 11 games played in the month of December.
Prediction
The under is a perfect 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two teams and I like the Jets and Patriots to make it six consecutive unders on Sunday. Brady hasn’t played anywhere near his usual level over the past month and was straight up bad against the Bills last Sunday, throwing for just 126 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. With Brady struggling, Josh Gordon suspended and Rob Gronkowski a shell of his former self, the Pats will need to rely on their running game and defense from here on out, which is yet another reason I like the under this weekend.
NFL Week 17 Prediction: Jets/Patriots under 44.5
